Why Some Campers Prefer to Build Tent Cabin Shelters

Some group campers prefer to build tent cabin shelters instead of using other types of tents. Cabin tents are particularly popular in the United States. They are single-skin canopies and are used more during the summer. A typical cabin shelter is often comprised of nylon walls, a polyester roof and a polyethylene floor. Some even have awnings attached on both ends.

Compared with typical camping tents, more effort is required to build tent cabin shelters since they are heavier. Most of these tents have a hydrostatic head of 1000 mm which makes them more appropriate for summer camping. Their sizes can range from 13 by 18 feet up to 25 feet by 10 feet. Removable dividers can create up to four rooms depending on the total size of the tent itself. Cabins feature three separate pole units, with each unit having two uprights and a connecting ridge.

Cabin tents have high ceilings and vertical walls. They have a spacious interior that provides comfort to families and groups who prefer to use these shelters. The only fallback with cabin shelters are that they are usually not waterproof and are not recommended for use in other weather conditions other than summer. Although they are more known as summer tents, some manufacturers have made improvements in the design of cabins to make them stronger and more versatile.

One example of a commercially sold cabin is the Trek Tents canvas cabin which features a water-repellant fabric. Although it will not totally protect users from a heavy downpour, it might be good enough for light rains. The roof and walls of this model are made of cotton and the floor is of vinyl-coated PVC. The Trek cabin has a regular price of $399.97.

Coleman, a well-known name in the tent-making business, also offers a cabin model. The American Heritage Weathermaster cabin canopy from Coleman features the company’s patented WeatherTec System. It can accommodate up to seven people; having specs of 12 x 9 feet and an 88-inch center height. The product has two doors and dividers to create two separate rooms. It sells at $167.99.

For some families and group campers, the effort to build tent cabin shelters is worth the space and comfort that the roomy canopy can provide. Particularly for a summer outing, a cabin tent is definitely a good option to consider.
