Tent Trailers From Jayco: One of the Oldest, One of the Finest

The market for tent trailers has enjoyed immense popularity, not only among campers, but also among people who prefer to live in a home that allows them to move from one place to another. Most trailer vehicles now are designed to simulate the quarters of traditional dwellings; with amenities like kitchens, showers and water tanks included in the package to make trailer-living more comfortable.

One of the companies that operate in the industry is the Middlebury, Indiana-based firm, Jayco Inc. The company is owned by the Bontrager family and was founded by Lloyd J. Bontrager in 1968. Aside from tent trailers, Jayco also offers motorhomes, fifth wheels and other recreational motor vehicles.

The models launched by Jayco in 2006 include the Baja and Select camping trailers and the Jay Series. The Baja has 13 inches of ground clearance and runs on 15 inches of off road Dunlops. It features a Bike-Port that can accommodate two bikes or an ATV. The model has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $8,571 to $10,714.

The Jayco Select, another recent offering, is known for its spacious design. It has high walls that allow countertops to achieve a height that is commonly found in ordinary dwellings. The high walls also allow bigger refrigerators and full range cooktops to be put inside the camper. The body is wider than most trailers, providing more storage space even for large items. It has a base price of $11,143.

The 2006 Jay Series, the third product line launched during the year by the company, is marketed as a comfort-conscious trailer. This model is designed to provide the user with the aura of a true home with its patented, tubular lifting system and a one-piece Campter-Tex tent. The interior features amenities that encourage relaxation and cozy living. The base price of the Jay Series ranges from $6,036 to $9,486. 

Jayco Inc. has been in the business of manufacturing tent trailers for 38 years. The products from the firm are distributed under several brand names including Granite Ridge, Seneca HD, Escapade, Jay Flight, Jay Feather EXP, Talon ZX and Greyhawk. The company is in partnership with about 300 dealers located in various major cities of the U.S. and Canadian provinces.
