What Kind of Family Tent Should You Get?

If you want to show your family the pleasures of camping, you should make sure they can be as comfortable as they can be. It is not that easy to appreciate the wild outdoors, after all, especially if you have been spoiled by urban living. Ease them into the experience by getting a good family tent. And there are quite a few things to consider when picking out the kind of tent that would best suit your needs as a family.

Space is what many families look for in their tents - space to gather and stay safe in. It could be quite distressing to see that because of the amount of camping gear you've brought, there's hardly enough room for people to move around inside the tent! If space is your priority, you should look into renting either a frame tent or trailer tent. A trailer tent is quite handy if you don't have a vehicle that can carry the bulk of your camping gear - you can just hook it up to the back of your car or minivan, then tow it with you to the campsite. Trailer tents could be cumbersome, though, so many families simply opt for a large, roomy tent instead, even if it is rather heavy and somewhat difficult to put up.

Tunnel tents are a space-saving alternative. You can fit a lot more things in a tunnel tent, than you could in a regular rectangular or dome-shaped one. A gazebo tent would definitely be larger and roomier - plus, being an open shelter, it would leave you more room to enjoy nature! But a gazebo tent is large, heavy, and difficult to carry around, so it might not be practical to consider unless you have a very large family.

The shape and make of the tent matters. Dome tents are often easier to carry around than their other collapsible cousins, the frame tents, which make use of a number of heavy poles, on top of being mostly made of heavy double layer cloth. But if you do not opt for the extra protection that frame tents allow, you may find yourself swimming upstream without a paddle in times of environmental distress. During a sudden downpour, for example, a frame tent would allow for better shielding than ordinary dome tents. A family tent should be sturdy, reliable, affordable, and finally easy to carry.
